How to make your succulents more colorful

Have your succulents lost their color and turned green once your brought it home? Or did you order your succulents online and they arrived green, but you want to bring out the color its meant to have? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then here are a few things you can do to bring out that color!

Sunlight

(Sunlight exposure is the most impactful factor in succulent color changes!)

  • "Light stress", which means subjecting your succulent to large amounts of sunlight, can lead to succulents changing color to compensate for this stress.

  • Succulents will conserve their energy when their is a lack of sunlight. They do this by turning greener as they produce more chlorophyll.

Water

  • Succulents that are watered more often will oftentimes be mostly green.

  • The longer they go without water the more intense the succulents pigmentation will be. If you want more color, then try to increase the time between waterings.

Temperature

  • In colder environments, many succulents will develop colorful tones as a stress response.

  • Soft succulents in temperatures around 50°F can bring out its colors.

  • Cold-hardy succulents often respond to deep frosts with increased burgundy and purple tones.
