7 steps to bring any of your outdoor plants indoors!

Updated: Feb 28, 2025

Do you have any plants that are not thriving outdoors? Or maybe the seasons are changing and you need to bring some of your plants indoors? Well, here are some easy to follow steps on how to bring them indoors safely.

Step 1: Trim & clean up any dead or unhealthy growth.

Step 2: Check for pests & treat.

Treat with neem oil, deadbug brew, systemic insect control or diatomaceous earth.

Step 3: Repot if necessary.

If it is root bound, meaning the roots take up majority of the pot and further growth is not possible, then repot into a pot that is 1-2 inches bigger than the root ball.

Step 4: Refresh soil.

This just means to change out the old soil with new soil. The soil the plant was kept in outside may contain pests, lost all of its nutrients, or become hydrophobic (meaning it won't absorb water).

Step 5: Rinse & water

Step 6: Consider the plants needs when bringing them indoors.

Lighting, humidity and air circulation.

Step 7: Gradually acclimate your plants.

Slowly introduce them to the environment they are going to live in.
